In 1940, in Shanghai, Chen Jiaping, an underground Communist Party member codenamed "Meihua Four," encountered his former fianc é e, Zuo Shuangtao, during a nearly exposed emergency while on a mission. At this time, Zuo Shuangtao was already a Kuomintang military intelligence agent who failed to execute the assassination mission and was also searching for a way out.
